X-Project is an X-Men/Marvel movie universe roleplaying game that started on LiveJournal in 2003 and moved to Dreamwidth in 2017. The main focus is, of course, X-Men and mutants, but there are other Marvel elements incorporated as well. We also try to blend comics in where we can, while keeping it realistic (or as realistic as a roleplay about mutants can be). For example we have a Susan Storm/Invisible Woman in game, but she’s a mutant.
Pretty much anything in the Marvel universe is fair game, as long as you don’t mind putting in the effort to make it work with our canon. We actually have quite a few non-mutant Marvel canon characters who have been reworked for the sake of the game (including Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Amanda Sefton/Daytripper, Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Clinton Barton/Hawkeye, Matt Murdock/Daredevil — there are more but those are off the top of my head).
We have 30-something players in game — sounds huge I know, but I promise we’re some of the friendliest people you ever will meet. We’re all a bit nerdy (obviously, we’re roleplayers), and if you get us going we don’t shut up, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Our playerbase is also international -- we've got players from all over the world so nobody is out of place.
But on to the actual game - as stated before, we’re journal-based. How does that work? It’s mostly through logs — scenes written between two or more characters through emails, that are posted to the log community when completed. We also have other communities for things like texting and emailing and game-wide posts for other characters to comment on. Each character also has their own LJ account as a “personal” journal, where they can post just about anything — announcements of good news, frustrations over bad days, drunken three a.m. posts about pancakes. The sky’s the limit.

We also run plots which again are written beforehand and posted at the appropriate time. If you can imagine it, we’ve probably done a plot for it. Hell we just ended the world. There’s pretty much no limit there, as long as you can make it work.
